How long can you survive without sleep?

Question:

Answers:
Sleep deprivation is a cruel form of torture, as I'm sure you know. It is used all over the world, and can drive people literally mad.
When I left home at 17 (back in the 1960s) I could go without sleep for four nights - maybe sometimes five. I lived in London and there was so much to do. I caught up by sleeping like a dead person for 12 hours. Now, at 56, I still stay up all night sometimes because there is so much (still) to find out, but I find a 2nd night quite difficult (I work 12 hours a day as well) and a third night, forget it. A friend of mine did 'train' himself to go with less and less sleep, and he got it down to 3 hours a night, so it can be done. But on the other hand, getting some sleep can be SUCH a pleasure, just to crawl under the duvet, not to set the alarm, but just to sleep ...
a day
roughly until you die from sleep deprivation
Personally only about 24 hours but sleep deprevation will not kill you
about 20hrs and im knackered
till your body gives up and u fall down. i get moody and grumpy if i held it without sleep for a long time. Speedy will assist you in staying awake for days. Also drugs like ephidrine (natural herb hung-fu) or t5 (mixture of ephedrine, caffine and asprine) will keep you up often used by body builders
I could survive quite a while without sleep - however the people around me when I am tired would not survive very long at all!
5 to 7 days for most humans.

But if you are feeling sleep deprived because you seem not to sleep when you go to bed, you actually get more sleep than you realize. Then you can go for years.
almost 24hrs. I think. especially if i'm mad.
Personally, probably 18 - 20 hours.
about a day maybe a day and a half not much more though but i find it hard to get to sleep after being awake for a while!
11 days, then you explode. Dont try it, it hurts.
ive been have non sleep for over a year now. i used to be able to get tired and sleep. but i have not been able to sleep for over a year and am not even on medication.i cant function properly, im absent minded, i make lots of mistakes when cooking, writing, speaking. and i relax or sleep at nite. at nite i have these hallucinations. I dont know how i am alive.

I might explode one day.watch out. :O :D

hope that answers your question.
12 days, 2 hrs, and 1 minute .. (ie 300 hrs) ... was more of a spiritual test for me on mental stability . personally wouldn't recommend to others since it nearly drove me insane. (note, wasn't all naturally done . ie .. COFFEE)
i can go for ages without sleep so long as i stay active. I guess after too long ur muscles will just give up though and you will have no choice but to sleep.
Tell eagleland to write to the FDA cuz he set a record I think if he stayed up that long. I think the record is 11 days (12 days now thanks to eagleland).
I've been up for about 36 hours, goodness knows how I've not imploded! just can't sleep. Not too sure on the longest length of time you can survive without sleep though
i can never sleep its now 2.00am an still awake at work in 5hrs lol
me personally 47hrs.
Forty hours (plus a few minutes) is the longest I've been awake for. Normally, I wouldn't be able to stay awake for that long - I had some kind of virus at the time.
the longest i have gone is 6 days. (thats with no drugs btw. besides coffee).
i have manic depression
I have gone 48 hours whilst doing my dissertation for uni, though if I had to I could have stayed awake fr longer, it is a case of staying active, however I don't advise this.
2 days. After that, I fell asleep involentarily watching some movie. I woke up on the floor. lol. don't advise trying to stay awake. Now I can't sleep.
