I have anxiety, what can I do to help me feel better? (besides taking medication)?

I suggest you read a good book about the benefits of positive thinking. "Real Magic" by Dr. Wayne W. Dyer teaches you how to be happy, healthy, successful and prosperous in daily life. It helps you identify your fears and replace them with confidence. It also goes into meditation and anxiety. Hope that helps.

Sounds weird ,but meditation is so awesome for this. Also i love aromatherapy, relaxing music and candles!
Distraction and deep breathing. Any type of project at all will help because focusing on it makes it worse. I had anxiety attacks for a while - I actually got a fish tank and strangely it helped.
Also breathing from your deep (diaphragm)
Excercise and meditation will help in this matter
There are three key steps:
1) identify the source(s) or your anxiety. When you recognize what your stressors are, it becomes easier to notice when you are under stress. You can, with time, modify your response to these stressors when you learn why you respond in the way you do to these events.
2) Engage in activities that promote relaxation. Moderate exercise, tai chi, yoga, meditation, biofeedback, therapeutic breathing and prayer are all techniques which can be done by yourself or with groups to trigger the relaxation response. Doing things that are fun and relaxing are also important such as reading, crafts, gardening. Take a class, learn something new for example.
3) Watch your diet and sleep. In times of stress, this puts additional strain on the body so getting enough rest, eating well, reducing caffeine intake and maintaining a positive outlook are all important actions.

i suffer it this too..i have ocd general anxiety..its tough and lonely having anxiety..not many understand it..and never will..i do.so i know how your struggling against the tide...and your exuausted...and you want to feel like your old self..it is so very possible to be cured...take look at this site...it has helped me im on the program now...but remember to eat well...sleep well...excercise and find an outlet to let off steam and excess energies...vitamins and minerals..flaxseed oil..B vitamins..and herbs..like st johns wort valerian..skullcap..passion flora ...can help too..its an overall life style change

Hi,
I used to have panic attacks & didn't like how the meds made me feel. I found someone who taught me relaxation techniques that I can use when I'm feeling anxious or panicky (no matter where I am). This is the best thing I've found.
