I feel like I'm trapped with no way out. I work for Chicago Public School, and want to get out. It's in chaos.

You sound like you are yearning for a change.
If i were you, i'd take a short holiday to unwind, recharge and as you mentioned, you'd need to stay in order to get your pension so I'd just have to take some time off to relax and come back to something hopefully i won't find so routine and boring anymore.
Otherwise, i'd start looking around for better alternatives. if i find a better offer else where, i'd take the plunge. move to greener pastures and unfortunately, give up my pension.
chill out. don't let this stress you out and drive you crazy. remember that at least you're better off then a lot of other people in worst situations... take the time and smell the flowers! good luck
I agree with the previous poster. Is your pension portable? (i.e. could you work in the public service in another city or for the state and transfer your pension?)
its all according to how long till you get your pension, if its yrs then is it worth it to stay when your miserable. if you leave you will lose it and why lose it when you have been there and been putting up with this bull and walk away with nil.i had a similar situation, and i hung on miserable as heck, for yrs, but i finally beat them and now im out with retirement. is it a job where you can transfer elsewhere , and not lose it.
