Hypnotism and bipolar?
Question:
Answers:
Because that's not how hypnotism works. I recommend you read Scott Adams' post on how hypnotism actually works.
Essentially, hypnosis cannot be used to treat illness, either physical or mental, because it's not magic, and in reality is nothing like what you may see on TV or in stage shows (which are mostly hoaxes and acting).
It would be nice, but bipolar is a medical condition caused by a combination of genetic, chemical and neuro-structural factors. To treat bipolar effectively it is best to use a combination of mood stabilizing meds and some talk therapy. This is nothing to be afraid of - the treatments are very effective, and with correct diagnosis and treatment bipolar people can lead very rewarding lives. There is no evidence at all that hypnotism can "cure" mood swings or prevent mania so please do get some tried and true treatment if you are bipolar. All the best, Sarah
There are some things it is effective with: I'd be surprised if this is one, but please try it, and let me know the outcome (through my profile), and I'll add it to my website. See pages 5, 2, and 2a, at http://www.ezy-build.net.nz/~shaneris... There is a self hypnosis reference on page 3.
