Anyone else out there suffering from anxiety who has overcome it by not taking medication??

Me. I had bad anxiety attacks for quite a few years as a kid. I don't know if it could ever be as "easy" (although it was NOT easy) for others, but I wish for them that it would be... I pretty much one day realized I was allowing my anxiety problems to control me, rather then the other way around. I decided to take the control back from it, forcing myself to become a control freak over it. When I'd start getting that anxious feeling, I'd mentally or quietly tell myself to "look around, NOTHING is happening, you are fine, put your mind on something else." And usually if I made myself realize that all was fine and made myself get my mind involved in some other kind of thought it did the trick.
And after I did that, in high school I pretty much worked hard to drag my sorry butt out of the depression I'd known most of my life and basically MADE myself become more of an optimist and leave the pessimism behind.
Honestly back then I could have probably used the medication, but I don't know if anyone even knew much about this yet. My parents had doctors and psychologists looking into it, and no one did anything...when today they'd prescribe pills immediately, ya know? But in the end, I'm glad I did not end up on pills...
yes still have it. try yoga or buy a CD that has soothing ocean waves sounds, that REALLY helps, you'll be very relaxed in 20 min! buy it at Target for $10.00.
You just have to preoccupy your mind with different things and just try to have a hobby or something that you can work on every day.
i had anxiety attacks so bad my htird trimester adn until 1 year after my baby was born. It was so bad and i was afraid to go to the doctor because the anxiety attacks were about someone sexually abusing my kids. This never happened i just had a huge fear. I changed my diet adn i exercise- run everyday. it helps. i tried teas and baths and just talking to someone.
i tried to make sure i was in a calm quiet place to sit and take time to calm myself down.i would sit on my bed and cross my legs into indian style and close my eyes and breathe deep breaths. if im in a public placei would try aand finda quiet place and just breath slowly. i know exactly how hard it is, but dont go with medications. they didnthave them a long time ago, we dont need them now.
I take medicated. Sorry, but I know you were looking for someone who over came it, by not taking medication. It is not a bad thing to take medication. I tried to deal with it, alone without the assistance of the folks, at my HMO in Behavior Health. But, I could not. I would advise against it, I too suffer from anxiety and panic attacks, at least I did, but since being on my anti depressant. I was suicidal, but now I feel so much better and I am loving life. Good Luck to you. Have nice evening.

my doc said that anxiety needs therapy and medication.
I still deal with mine. It started after having my first child. I didn't start on any medications because I was breastfeeding so I had to come up with another way to deal with it. I found out that daily exercise and listening to old music (for me swing or big band) really helped. It has been 5+ years and doing these non-pharmacological things still helps.
i meditate. go to holisticonline.com for more info. walk.
