I'm convinced that I have OCD. How and from whom do I seek help?

Question:
Do I ask my primary care physician? a psychiatrist? who?

Answers:
If you already have a doctor, ask to be referred to someone who can help.

Make sure the person you see offers cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) or other therapy BEFORE offering drugs. There's no point seeking help if the person is just going to write to an Rx for something that will make you groggy and out of it, with horrible side effects.

I did CBT for an OCD-related problem (impulse control disorder) and it worked! Such a relief.
I recommend a psychiatrist, they have the knowledge base to diagnose and treat appropriately.
You could have your Dr. refer you to some1 or do searches for therapists/shrinks in your area. Good luck. I have it too!
