Weird Phobia I have. Some advice on overcoming my fear?
Question:

Well, I can tell you that it's not a phobia. I looked at www.thephobialist.com you can look for yourself if you want to. http://www.phobialist.com/index.html#a-...
But that doesn't help your problem, so here are some tips...
You need to desensitize yourself. That requires looking at pictures of brains daily, touching squishy or slimy textures often, and getting yourself used to brains. Here are some pictures to help you get started. (prepare yourself mentally beforehand.)
Here are some digital photos (not real)

Now you also need to be educated on what brains actually do, Check out these sites to learn about how amazing brains are.

Well honestly how often are you gonna be seeing brains in your everyday routine. Just don't worry about it cuz your messed up brain is the only reason you fear it to begin with.
Not only is that thing IN you, that thing IS you.
ok... try going to a science lab or science center where you can handle one, maybe if you manipulate it you can get over the fear. also try learning all you can about what it does and how it functions then you eliminate your fear of it. good luck.
You can benefit greatly from Cognitive Behaviour Therapy. It really helps with phobias.
There's a link to Wikipedia (not the best source, but the quickest one at hand) about Progressive Desensitization. It will take time and support from those around you... Maybe a bit of short-term therapy if it really interferes with your life, but you can beat it.
Good luck.
First of all your not crazy...we all have our things, your just happens to be brains.
Ok there is good news and bad news about phobias...you want the good news first? Ok...Phobias are really treatable and are one of the only mental illnesses that is actually curable!
What now you want the bad news? hmmm here goes...the only way to effectively treat a phobia is by exposure and extinction... Don't freak!! Here's how to start...
1. Start with the word "brain" write it, say it ect. Gauge yourself on a scale from 1-10 on how anxious this makes you (10 being freaking out, 1 being a-okay). If you start at a 9 continue to say it and write it until it becomes a 1. This may take days so don't get down on yourself and keep going!
2. Once your at a 1 with the word...look at a 2D (like text book) picture of a drawing of a brain and use our handy scale above and use the exposure and extition method (the making a 10 into a 1)
3. After #2 is accopmlished move to a real 2D picture of a brain look at it until the picture goes from a what ever to a 1.
4. Next get a life like toy brain from a halloween store...you guessed it...use the exposure extinction model. be able to touch it as well as look at it !
5. If your really wanting to get crazy with the excersise go to a hospital or university and explain your situation. They will let you look at a real brain and try the same techniques...volia!...your phobia will be gone!!
Good luck you can do it!
well this may not help but you could think about how scary it would be to not have a brain? or think about the fact that "that thing" is you! without it you are just body parts with no mind, thoughts or feelings. try to learn more about how the brain works and you may start to see it as an intriguing function.
omg. its touching you!! aaaahhhhh!!
