What is an effective way to get out of bed quickly when you have always hated doing so since childhood?

Question:
As a little background info, I have suffered from periodic episodes of mild to severe depression, which I've been treated for with counseling and prescription antidepressants. I have the depression under control pretty well now and no longer take medication. Please don't recommend any prescription or non-prescrition antidepressants. I'm simply looking for suggestions on how to do something more effectively that I've always had a great deal of difficulty doing.

Answers:
I'm with you on hating to get out of bed and the depression issue. I find that if I turn on the radio or TV, I get involved in whatever is going on and then suddenly I'm awake. Or, try leaving the curtains open just before you go to bed, that way when you wake up it will be really bright in your room. You could try one of those lamps that wakes you with a gradually brightening natural light... they are supposed to be good for seasonal affective disorder, but I've never tried.

I started drinking coffee in the morning because I just like it, and that gives me some incentive to get out of bed, because I want to enjoy my coffee. So maybe if you can think of a treat for yourself that you do or have first thing in the morning, that will inspire you to get up. Good luck and best wishes!
Everyone hates getting out of bed man. Suck it up and get some coffee.
Do you have to get out of bed quickly? I usuallt set my alarm a half hour before I have to wake up and then give myself time to lounge before physically rising. Let your mind wake up as your body adjusts to waking up.

Another thing that might help is having a routine in the morning that you look forward to like yoga or jogging or just simply reading the paper with your coffee for ten minutes.
Set an alarm and "train" yourself to get right up and walk directly into the shower. It's only a matter of establishing a habit. Good luck!
Get somebody to throw a bucket of cold water over you.
unfortunately there is no easy way to do it. as i approached thirty i realized that so much of being successful is about just doing it- the same applies here. i hate getting up in the morning just like most people but the best way is to skip the "ill just need five more minutes" game. force yourself to get up and do it as soon as you wake up! tell yourself there are important things to get out of bed for. i do it everyday, it gets easier the more you do it.
