How can I get help for my mom?

Question:
I am getting increasingly worried about my mother's mental health. She's 64 and is having problems knowing what day of the week it is, forgetting words when she is trying to have a conversation. A few years ago I convinced her to move into a seniors building(not a retirement home) because I had hoped she could make some friends and not be so much of a shut in. It hasn't helped at all. I'm the only person she talks to. She calls me daily and if I don't answer she gets very upset and will call up to 5 times to find out why I didn't answer. In the last 13 year she has been hospitalized twice for unknown pyschiatric problems, both times after my children were born. I'm currently pregnant with my third child and I'm very scared of what will happen this time. She sees a doctors every couple of months because of those hospitaliztions. She is also very stubborn. 1.5 years ago she fell and fractured her leg and it took her 2 months before she would go to the doctor's, and even then it

Answers:
yes,,, you can speak with her doctor and don't need her permission,, actually with people with mental health issues, the doctor will appreciate your input because usually the patient isn't honest with them,,, your a great daughter and she is lucky to have you on her side! good luck!
make her a scrap book. we did that for my grandma and it helped.
I'm so sorry about your mother. It sounds like she could have dementia as well as some social anxiety problems. Why it's happening after the birth of your children perplexes me, but it could be just stress of being a grandmother again (my grandmother stresses about everything from people visiting to if we get her grocieries, and has for years). For some reason, as people get older, they dislike doctors more and more and think they don't need them. Something to do with reaching the end of one's mortality.

You should be able to refer to her doctor, especially if you are the Power of Attorney to her will and estate. Otherwise, you could just ask after her condition for concern with her health and well being. Good luck! I hope you can help her somehow.
At that age there is another mental problem as the unused brain can be attacked by virus as in Altheimers disease. I would leave depression up to the individual as it is from their expectations in life.
Oh hun you sound like you love your mother so much! Thats great! yes! Please do speak to her doctor, it could help her out tremendously! They may have a med that can help her memory! good luck! hugs!
