My father is in a bad situation because he has tried to commit suicide after being released from a psychiatric facility on Monday. He is now in another one but my family and I are concerned that he will try to harm himself again once he is released but nobody in my family is able to care for him and don't know what to do. He has had numerous opportunities to overcome his problems but continues to use drugs and alcohol which leads to his suicide tendencies. I just don't know what to do or how to go about having him committed long term because he does whatever he can to get released but then does the suicide attempts. What can I or my family do to help?

Please talk to his inpatient doctor and social worker. They need to know first hand what your father will do when he gets back home again. Tell them he will do anything just to get out of the hospital. Let them know your family is unable to care for him.
