Question:
Alrighty ... I suffer my Anxiety attacks and am on Zoloft and have been for about 4 months now and have to go back for a check up on wednesday. Things I thought were getting better excepct for the last couple of weeks i've gotten really anxious and I had a couple big attacks when out in public. This week coming up I have a big test ... an appointment with my college and then a concent at an arena ( last time i was there about 8 months ago I had a bad attack). I was wondering if on wednesday before these 4 things take place when I go to the doctor if I should see if she would give me ativan or xanax for times that i need to relax myself. I know its not a total fix but i just mean to help me get through big events like these. Any help or knowledge that would help?
Answers:
It is not unusual for a doctor to prescribe Xanex or the like for the times you need a little extra. Since this does occur you should consider seeing a therapist as well. Also, the Zoloft may not be right for you or the dosage may need to be adjusted.
I never had much luck on xanax because I was so anxious about becoming addicted to it I didnt take it properly. Ativan, or the generic Lorazepam is what I take now, and I've done wonderfully on it. The lorazepam is also something that you will be able to come off of relatively easy.
I used to have attacks out in public too, and then I'd be really embarassed because of it. There was a time where I wouldnt go out at all because of it. Lorazepam and my bipolar meds have really helped me conquer those feelings. Good luck!
Relaxing is a simple matter of non resistance to what is. Completely accept what is and you'll be relaxed.
