The meds may lift your spirits and slow your heart rate, but it doesn't stop you from obsessing about stuff.
You need to learn to control your anxiety-inducing thoughts. There isn't anything profound involved, honest! You may truly be worried about something, but you don't have to think about it until you worry yourself sick:( There is a time and place to solve your issues, and you need to learn how to turn the obsessive thoughts off when it isn't helpful to think about it. KWIM?
I ask myself a question when my anxiety level gets too high. I ask myself "Is this something I can control?" "Can it be fixed at this moment?" "Have I already done everything I can do to fix this?"
If it is out of your control then worrying about it won't help, will it? If it is something you can fix, then do something at that moment that is pro-active towards a solution.
Don't let yourself obsess, it will suck the joy right out of your life.
Try Effexor; it is for GAD (general anxiety disorder).
I would def talk to the doc about it xanax or any benzo taken half hour before the stressful events may help. I take diazepam and it helps me but beware these drugs are addictive if taken long-term and constantly
Do not take Xanax. It has a short half life and is extremely addictive. One prescription and you are hooked.
Ativan is a better alternative.
The best anti-anxiety medication is Klonopin. It has a long half life and doesn't leave you feeling anxious when it wears off.
Some people are afraid of panic attacks because it makes them feel like something is very wrong physically. Other people are afraid of panic attacks because they are afraid of embarrassing themselves. It sounds like you may have a form of social anxiety/social phobia in addition to anxiety attacks (possibly agoraphobia)
SSRI's and sedatives will alleviate the symptoms of anxiety attacks, but medications really will not take them away -- which is a good thing (ironically) You don't want to be numb to your feelings. As long as your anxiety and depression are under control, you can work on dealing with the feelings that trigger the symptoms.
My advice is to seek counseling that incorporates behavior modification and cognitive therapy (replacing negative thoughts with positive ones).
what ever you do.NEVER TAKE XANAX!! it is very addictive and i've seen it ruin peoples lives!
