I have a friend who is very depressed and pulls her hair as a form of Self-Mutilation. What should i do?

She is a friend of mine at the campground we go to. She started when she became lonely at the end of the year becasue the campgound closed and her freinds were gone for winter. You can see to her scalp and its getting worse. Once i realized what was happening i comforted her and she slowly stopped. Although she does it periodically, she is now using elastic wristbands to sting her wrists. What can i do to help her stop?

Aricept as a treatment for Alzheimer's, does it help anybody?

Answers:
Tell her parents, offer to go with her while she does this.Continue to be there after - do you swap phone numbers and you can keep in contact through the winter?
She needs more help than you can give to her.
But the very best thing, is to continue doing what you have been - which is being her friend.

Purpose of this?

This is a condition called trichotillomania and it is more of a form of obsessive compulsive disorder than self-mutilation, unless she is grabbing clumps at a time and pulling it out in a rage.

In trichotillomania, people usually start to pull their hairs out one at a time. This condition can be mild or severe. In a severe case, a person will go on to eyebrows and eye-lashes, as well as other areas of the body.

Your friend should seek help from a doctor. She may be referred to a psychiatrist or be put on anti-depressant medication that can help treat obsessive compulsive behavior.

Be a good friend to her and discuss her conditon with her and support her so that she can get help. Good luck!

what can i do if i hav unpresidented schizophrenic attacks in an irregular unpredictable manner?

We all want life to exactly our way, but it never works out perfectly. We want something but don't get it and it feels as if our lives are ruined. We want people to love us exactly the way we want them too love us, but it hardly ever works out that way. We want perfect peace and joy, but someone is always oppressing us or insulting us or doing so to our friends. We want freedom from pain and old age, but suffering and death comes. So what to do? How can we bear the sadness and misery that fills our lives, how can we escape torment and death?

My advice is to turn to God and embrace his truth no matter how painful. He can do much more than cheer a person up, he change their life for the better, and one day will make it perfect forever, perfectly satisfying you. Try his way if you already haven't already. He changed my life, and no "chemical imbalance" stopped him. On the link below can be found the true and only way to getting eternal life. If you are bipolar, do you take advantage of that?

You need to tell someone that she's doing it to get her help. She may be mad at you at first for telling someone else about it but it's the only way to help her. Also try to talk her into going into therapy for her situation.

is there anyone around northeast arkansas that would be interested in a support group for bipolar disorder?

Please tell her parents about this. She needs help. And they will know how to handle this..
