How does one get section 8 and how long does it take?

I am very unhappy matter fact depresed about where I live now. I dont have that much of an income to get my own place and was wondering how can I get help with my apartment. If anyone know of any solution please help me. Serious answers please. Thank you.

If you are disabled due to mental illness issues, you may be entitled to a social worker in your state. Call up your county social services department and tell them your situtation and ask if you qualify for a social worker's help. You may have to be persistent if you are in a large metropolitan area.
