I need help...I'm bi-polar..what can i do?

Question:
As embarrassing as this is,Ive got to reach out somewhere,i guess this is as desperate as it gets.
My whole life is crumbling beneath me.My wife is worried, sometimes frightened.Im frightened,i sometimes feel like a completely different person,i act like an idiot, say things i dont mean,i do stupid things that are not me,or even remotely close to resembling my character at all.this has gone on for the past 2 years.Ive sought help, ive yet to find a medication that actually works.im manic at times, out of the blue.as an example, work is only a 20 minute drive,i can be fine when i leave, but by the time i get home,im not me,i cant explain it.I truely feel like im losing it.I need to get a grip or this is going to cost me my marriage sooner or later, maybe my job.I truely can not stand to be me any longer.is there help?or options other than just meds?something that would allow me to be calm, less panicky, stable minded at times?there are times i feel i just dont want to be here.help,please.

If you have been diagnosed as being Bi-Polar, you need to find a "Behaviorial Health Doctors office, pick out someone you might want to see m/f psychiatrist that can manage your medications, and get you on some anxiety meds. I've been Bi-Polar for quite some time and believe me, finding the right medications can be frustrating as all get out. My Psychiatrist got me a t-shirt that said, "Problem Child." It's also best if you have a counselor that you can see and talk to. All of that together will make you feel a lot better. God Bless
There are medications that will help you with your problems. I would see a doctor and see about getting on meds because it seems like you may need some help. Going on with the mood swings when you don't have to is ridiculous and cruel to yourself. Go see the doctor. Good Luck
well you need some one to talk to and you need to be able to get exercise and plenty of it . if that dosent do the trick go to your doctor and ask for help
another medical condition that is seeking a cure in the wrong place..namely YouQA.com .----------you need to see a pschyiatrist...help is available...what i find hard to believe is that you lived with this condition for 2 years
i see that u looked for help but have not found the right medication...switch doctors..try another state if needed...i feel for you..wish i was a doc..keep trying
adapt your lifestyle.
check with vocational rehabilitation services.
A company called EEG spectrum claims to be able to use neural feedback to help you condition yourself towards a normal state.
I hope this helps.
Managing your stress is extremely important as stress can easily trigger "an episode." Learn what works to reduce your stress.
This could include: exercise, meditation, deep breathing, guided imagery, soft music, etc.
Remove yourself from all stressful situations when possible. If You Become Manic or Irritable
Turn the lights down. No loud sounds. Remove yourself from a stressful situation. Take any medication your Dr. recommends. Call Dr. if needed. Slow deep breathing. Close your eyes and do some guided imagery. Imagine yourself in a safe, beautiful place where you are completely relaxed.
G'day,
I understand what you're going through. Although I do not have bipolar, I've lived with a father with bipolar for at least 23 years that I can remember (i'm 28 now). Sadly medication is the only way I know that can control my father, I say sadly, because the medication makes him lethargic at times, and can really knock him around. There is some medication called Empower plus, by truehope institute. Worth looking up. I saw it on the discovery channel one time, but dad never wanted to try it, it's not cheap tho. Good luck.
Who told you that you are bi polar? You sure don't sound like it to me. Risperdal...in small half milligram dose will help with your panic attacks...and might calm your mind down. I'm not a dr.just want you to know that. Please ask your dr. about this medicine. Are you taking other medicine? If so..you could be having side effects from it. If it's not the right medicine it can make you act crazy. Please check about this. Have you been involved in a cult of any kind?..that can do it too. I know what you're talking about. You're not the only one this has happened to. Hang in there and keep searching...maybe change doctors..talk to others. Just because someone says something, doesn't mean it's true. You might be on medicine for bi polar and not be bi polar. ..and the medicine will make you look and act crazy. If the medicine isn't having a GOOD effect...helping you...get your dr. to change to something else. You have a right to your sanity.find a good doctor. How I wish I could help you more ! P.S. Is there any chance anyone at work could be putting drugs in your coffee etc? Are you in a drug free work place? In these days and times you can't be too careful.
Sometimes new meds will have that effect on you, but after a while that wears off.
my therapist had me go on disability, get a service dog, meditate, exercise, avoid stress, listen to favorite music, play music at night, and take a sleeping pill. I am functional. Can manage my life, The dog helps me the most,I still get irritable, stressed, panic attacks, anxiety, and depressed. Knowing the problem helps me and as I cant work, I can stay in my apt and watch tv until I feel better.

Family is supportive but I live alone and prefer it
I'm guessing that part of the bi-polar is that you aren't following up with your appointments and medication well. It does take time to get the dosing right on your medications, and it is important to stick with the appointment schedule that your clinician recommends. Does your health insurance have a mental health hotline? Does your wife have a number to call when she feels like you are out of control? Find her one, ask you psychiatrist.

I've known plenty of people who have struggled with a new diagnosis... and mental health professionals are fully aware of the difficulty that you are having... but you have to keep them informed and meet your responsibilities (such as taking your meds exactly how they are prescribed).

It is possible to live a full and healthy life with this diagnosis.
Your medicenes seem to be too strong. Talk the the doctor and cut the dose in half, if he says to. Also, try Celexa or something not quite as strong. Sometimes Doctors have to play with different medicenes until they find the right one that works with your brain chemistry. Good luck!
Hi,

If you are bipolar then the way to treat your illness is with medication.Period. I wish that you had listed the medications that you have taken, so we would know what is not working for you. If you are in a desperate way, and need help. I would recommend a short stay on Zyprexa. Zyprexa is an atypical antipsychotic medication that will squash your mania quickly and most likely will not "knock you out". It will however, cause weight gain, and in some people diabetes over time. I recommend it only as a short term solution. Other drugs that you could try include Abilify,Geodon, Risperdal, Seroquel,
Depakote and lithium. Or any combination of the above. You must see a psychiatrist and try different drug combinations until you find what works for you. You sound like you are in a manic state. If you are taking a medication currently, it is not working for you at it's current dose. Get to the doctor and get some help.
