Yo raging inferno
There are so many people with depression that they now have "specialists" that treat this -- this is something realitively new !!
The 'life styles" of the overworked, over-stressed, be everything for everybody and be all you can be society
are coming to the fact that there is simply --- only SO much that one can do without hitting a wall !!

Awareness OF this disorder, however, has created a situation where people are far more likely to seek treatment and help with it than they were -- say twenty years ago --- when a lot of the more common view was -- that "something was 'wrong' with a person if they were 'like that' " ---- meaning that that person was somehow defective !! Thank God that those days are past -- because NOW people can make admission OF this disorder and get help for it WAY before it starts to totally screw up their life !!
I believe that due to the heavy work culture there are an infinite number of people who have break downs and become depressed. They work too hard, or can't find a job or are only scraping to get by and are depressed. Work ethos is actually quite unhealthy.
Yes I think depression is more and more common. With all the chaos in the world its hard not get depressed
There have always been more people then we realize that suffer from depression. It use to be hush hush and an embarrassing issue, now it's so open that I think we all fear we fall in that category and should seek the magic pill that makes us happy. Feeling sad is normal. If you can't break away from that sadness then your lucky to live now when they're are many to help, instead of the dark ages when they locked people in the basement.
Depression has been around forever, it is just much more acceptable to talk about it now. In the 50's women were looked down on for talking about it so they drank to numb the pain, now it's OK to admit that you need help and take medication for it.
YES THERE ARE A LOT OF PEOPLE THAT SUFFER FROM DEPRESSION...MOST OF THEM DO NOT KNOW IT
I think that there have always been a lot of people who suffer from depression. Today it is a common thing and people speak about it freely, years ago it was something that was kept private due to the stigma attached. Have you ever seen an old mental hospital with the bars on the windows? They look like something out of a Hitchcock movie. It must have been a pretty scary thing to be locked away in one of those horrible old buildings. If you weren't crazy when you went in you sure were if and when they let you out. It makes you grateful for your mental health doesn't it?
Stress, abuse, wars, fighting, it all just sort of makes you wanna cry sometimes, doesn't it? Some people don't take it as well as others. Sadly, it would be a surprise if fewer people were depressed than more. There's a lot of depressed people out there. I should know. I'm one of them. Wow. Hope I didn't bum you down, there. lol.
I think so. I have suffered since 2001.
