Is there a solution to pathological boredom?

Question:
I am, it seems, irreparably bored. I've tried all the usual suggestions. I've gone for walks, attempted to sit through movies, played video games, etc. I've tried "controlled" thrill-seeking things like riding roller coasters (I'd never do things that endanger others like road racing). It just doesn't excite me. I'm seeing a psychiatrist about this soon, but: is there a solution? Are there drugs, treatments, anything that can help with this?

Answers:
I would steer clear of drugs...I think u might be having some sort of mid life crisis...it will pass but talking to a therapists is a good idea
Kain. I am going through a similar situation. In my case boredom is caused by my depresion. I am taking Cymbalta. Nothing seems to excite me that much
Well, it might sound stupide or a to easy solution but you might just have some kind of vitamin deficiency. are you eating healthy, do you eat a lot of fruits and vegetables?! try that, it might help!
I wish I knew how old you are and if this has been something you have suffered for a long time. I agree you need to talk to some one other then us but until then does anything make you wonder? Even just a little curiosity in some subject can lead to all out WOW. You may be very very smart and need to find the right button - it may be mental stimulation that will effect you more then physical. Don't stop looking and sorry but I'm excited for you because when you find the right button-you will have soooo much fun!
Boredom is quite often a symptom of depression.

I am glad you're going to see a psychiatrist. He/she can make the final determination.
