Anyone else in AA have a hard time finding a sponsor?

Question:
Im having a hard time finding and asking someone to be my sponsor. I guess Im afraid of rejection or the person saying they cant help me.

Answers:
Well first of all I would like to say to you, it is wonderful your looking for a sponsor and actually asking questions. So many recovering people fail to even consider a sponsor and end up relapsing. I always suggest to find a temporary sponsor until you can find a real sponsor. Just go to a meeting, raise your hand and ask for a temporary sponsor. Once you have one, continue looking for a sponsor you like. Remember sponsorship is a two way street, kind of like finding a job. I would suggest once you find someone you would like to make a real sponsor, ask her (i'm assuming your female) to go have coffee, or go to dinner. Let her know what you want from a sponsor and ask her if she can give it to you. Like I said, its a two way street. Not only are you asking her to be your sponsor, your trying to decide whether or not you really want her as a sponsor. Do not be afraid of rejection, chances are if you get rejected, she may have too many sponsees and do you really want someone who can't give you as much attention as you want? There is so much I can say about sponsorship, that it would take me forever to type. There is a book called Twelve Step Sponsorship, by Hamilton B. It has everything you need to know about sponsorship. It answers all the major questions, provides how to ask, what to ask, when to ask, etc. You can keep a hold of it because once you are clean enough to become a sponsor, it provides information for the sponsor. It's an excellent book for anyone looking for a sponsor or anyone who is a sponsor. You need to buy this book, it is so wonderful and it only costs like $13. I bought it at borders bookstore.
It's easy sweet pea. You show up to a meeting, you say Hi, my name is ...., I'm an alcoholic and I need a sponsor.
Trust me, honey, if anyone refuses to sponsor you, they aren't supposed to be your sponsor.

If the train doesn't come to your station, it's just not your train!

Hang out after the meetings and get to know people. I know it's hard and scary, but the right sponsor will come along before you know it. Just be patient..but keep coming back!
