My son has no compassion for strangers in a crisis.?
Question:
Answers:
I wouldn't read too much into it, both were rather surreal and difficult for most people, regardless of age to incorporate into their view of the world. If he has a girlfriend, he's succsesfully empathizing to some degree. Me, personally, I can only handle so much bad news in a day, maybe he's the same way. I hardly even watch the news anymore. I just try to do what I can within my own little circle...
-edit- also, after my first son was born, i was a mess, i suddenly realized how tragic the world was... maybe it's just a guy thing.
It may be his age?
It's normal nothing to worry about.
Sounds to me like he's spiritually sick (not mentally ill.)
Don't worry too much. He'll be fine when he grows older. Now he probably doesn't have a clear idea what has happened. It takes time and experience to see and feel the pain in other people.
I remember once, when I was at high school or something, telling my mother, that Hitler wasn't so wrong that such and such race is better. Of course I didn't have a clue what was this all about. She stared at me for a while, looking shocked, but didn't say anything. And my mother is one great human being, but that's another story.
It might even be that your son's pretending to be unconcerned to hide his feelings... probably to look tougher? lol
He probably hasn't expirenced loss before so he can't make a connection
hes just bein a normal teen
