Valium anyone?

Question:
Has anyone ever taken valium to get off of xanax or just for panick attacks? I've been taking about 6mg. of xanax for almost a year now for panick and anxiety. I've become physically addicted and I hate it. I talked to my doctor about it and I'm going to quit this weekend. She's going to prescribe me valium for the withdrawal. I got off it once with klonopin and it was still terrible. Is valium stronger? Has anyone ever taken it for withdrawals or for panick attacks? How do it's effects compare to xanax?

Answers:
I was also on xanax. After taking it for six months and when my doctor thought that it was time to take me of the drug, he reducted the dosage to half then to a quarter. Now I only take a pill each time and it is only 0.25 mg. Understand it should be tailed off slowly. Not stopped suddenly or change to another drug. It works like a rubber hose with water sprouting out. the xanax works like a hand squeezing the hose to prevent the water (anxiety) from coming out. If we stop the drug suddenly, it would cause the water to suddenly spring out of the hose and all our pent up anxieties would cloud our mind and we will have a nightmare and heartattack. Not is not right. So, the best way is to still take the drugs but lesser and lesser like the band reducing the pressure on the hose very slowly until the water is flowing out normally again. The release of pressure on the hose should be so slight that we do not feel it and unconciously let the flow be stronger till we are once again on normal function. If xanax is too weak at 0.25mg then i think it could be combined with valium. But the most important is to check the dosage like how many mgs.
Valium should work very well for you. It's a very good sedative... just like xanax, but I think a little weaker, but don't quote me.
My mom uses valium for her panic attacks and she loves the way it helps her.

Hope this helps. :-)
i have been taking the generic for xanax (alprozolam) for about 3 years. i only take 1/2 of a 5mg when i get a panic attack. it works for me. i might take a total of two 5mg a week or less. they just take the edge off. valium on the other hand is much more powerful, i think. they ultra relax you, make you sleep. maybe you need to cut down the dosage you are taking of xanax. i believe it's easier to get hooked on valium. i have taken valium, but never again. too addicting.
Valium is strong and widely used for this.
i have Valium for that reason and to help me sleep at times too.
Valium can be addictive more so then most Drugs so be careful with it and keep your dr up to date with how it is going and the use of it. also your able to take high does of it too Farly safely but still try to keep the dose down as the next time you need it the more you would need
What's true for one person may not be true for another, but I can share my experience. I used to be hooked on Tranxene, (sic) and at the time I wanted Xanax so bad you wouldn't belive it (oh, yes you would) but my doctor had the wisdom not to give it to me. I take it now, but not abusively, and have shown the doc that I am medication compliant by bringing in my meds that I have left over every month and simply shooting straight with him... it took many years to get to this point, and today Life is pretty good. I sure do wish you well. Good Luck! May the good Lord bless and keep you close.
