Can obsessive compulsive disorder cause people to talk to themselves?

Question:
My mother strongly suspects that I have OCD, though I haven't been formally diagnosed. That being said, though, I have had a strange habit since I was a kid. That is, I talk to myself! I sort of whisper under my breath, as though I'm acting out a conversation with an imaginary person. I know that no one else is there, so I'm not having visual or auditory hallucinations. My grandmother used to also do this. I know that OCD has a genetic component, so is it possible that my grandmother's and my strange behavior is caused by it?

Answers:
Talking to oneself is not a symptom of OCD; however, it is possible for someone with OCD to talk to themselves. There are many people that talk to themselves that do not have a psychiatric disorder.
Yes along with several mental defects!
I talk to myself all the time since I was a kid, and also had OCD as a kid, but now I still talk to myself and it not abnormal, I consider myself mentally fit.. talking to yourself is not a big deal...not to worry, but the OCD is the most annoying thing I was ever through, it was hard but I overcame it .. so can u!
I just want to say that I so do that!
... a lot.
:)

I don't think I have OCD, but I am very obsessive about details and things "feeling right." And yeah, I will have the same conversation several times in my head, though I think I have learned to keep it all in my head and not mumble so much.
yeah thats part of ocd. There are meds available to treat it though such as prozac luvox and anafranil
