Can anyone please tell me what to do to STOP being a PROCRASTINATOR?

Question:
Can anyone please tell me what to do to stop me from being a procrastinator? I have had this problem for many years but when I hit high school, it's becoming a BIG problem and I just don't know what to do. Can someone please help me?

Answers:
Don't worry about trying to stop being a procrastinator. You can just do that later.

But seriously, I know many people who are procrastinators. I have deduced that it is somehow related to the need to be the best at what you do. That may sound illogical, but people who tend to not be able to do something 'good enough' are the worst procrastinators. They tend to either do something really thoroughly, or are frozen and can't do anything at all. The fear of starting a project and then only being able to do it just OK, is the force that keeps them from starting.

Try to think of 'What's the minimum I have to do to get this done' rather than thinking about how to do it perfect. You may start to be judged as less than perfect, but that is OK. For the things you want to do very well, focus on those. It makes sense that you are staring to have problems now that your world is expanding.

Choose your battles. For somethings, just focus on the minimum to get done. By getting them out of the way, you can focus on the things you enjoy.
Get off yer tush, and umm, Just Do It?
start doing stuff rite away!
I have the same problem. In fact I was wanting to make a Procrastinators club...but I keep putting it off.

Its a symptom of ADHD though. Talk to your doc about it.
ur asking a question similar to addicts who ask how to stop doing drugs. Just stop!!
stop being lazy and get up off ur *** to take care of business and take pride in doing things right with time left on the clock!
Give yourself a lot of work, a lot of work that will keep you busy at all times. I have a friend who does a lot of things, cheer, golf, 5 AP classes, 1 honors class, and still has time to do a lot of stuff. I asked her how she does this and she said I have so many things to do, I don't even have time to procrastinate.

If you don't want a heavy workload, just do it. If you can't work hard enough now, how will you succeed when you're older?
Just get 'er done! lol Try to find some way of motivating yourself. I have the same problem...the day before I will get all my plans ready, what I want to do, then the next day comes and I have a hard time getting myself to get around to it. Best thing I can do is not even think about what I'm going to do, and just do it.
Try to set mini goals for yourself. Break big projects down into smaller, more manageable ones. Once you see that a big project can be accomplished easily, you won't get so overwhelmed.
Plan on stopping procrastinating. Tomorrow.

:-)

Get organized! Just because you want to stop procrastinating doesn't mean you need to do everything right now! Make a schedule. Get a day planner. I know, no one likes them, so get a cheap PDA, like a low-end Palm or something like that, just make a schedule, so you know when things are due and how much time you have to get them done.

From there, (and here's the real key), you have to STICK TO YOUR SCHEDULE! You can't read your schedule and say, "Oh, I know I'm supposed to do this today, but I'll just do it later." In order for your schedule to work, you have to stick to it. You're only hurting yourself by not following through, and you have the most to gain by sticking to your schedule.

What you have to do is get a calendar. Put down what you have to do, and when you should start doing it. What I did was everytime I had an assignment I pretended it was due a week or so early than it actually was- and that's the date I put down in my calendar.

I also speed up my clock so that I wake up earlier. That way I have more time to get started on my day.

The best way to cure it is to be organized.

I hope this helps.
DO what you need to do as soon as possible. Get your home work done first things first. When ever you have free time at school work on you homework. That way you can have more time for play or further reviewing. Sometimes you need to review a subject twice so that it sticks in your head.
Just think of things in the opposite way. Instead of waiting to do things, get them done right away, then you don't have to do them later! Trust me, it is so much easier to have things done and out of the way, (say like assignments or homework) then it will feel like a weight has been lifted off your shoulders.
I'm not sure how to answer this but I'll give it a shot..
By first asking you this, what good has come out of being a procrastinator, anything? If you've answered nothing then that's a good first step. Now I guess alls you have to do is to keep in mind the thing that you want to put off has to now take priority sort to speak. Think of it like this, if I get it done then it's out of the way and I don't have to keep thinking about eventually getting it done. Actually you know what, your doing more work (mentally) by putting things off because your always thinking about when your going to do them. Do them then you don't have to worry about it and you can spend more time thinking about other stuff. I don't know, you just have to have a little discipline and motivation to get stuff done. Yeah, sometimes its tough to get the motivation but you just have to put it in your mind, even set a day and just stick to the plan.
Write a to-do list of the things you have to do that day and physically cross of your tasks IMMEDIATELY after you have completed them. If you fail to complete the tasks add them to tomorrows list. ONLY include the things on your list that you consider a priority (unless you are really a true PROCRASTINATOR then you need to include eating and bathing)

Remember do the important stuff first (the stuff that will cause negative consequences if not completed) then REWARD your self with something fun you can include things like : get a massage, movie w/ a friend, dinner out, take a vacation - the more FUN you are having the easier your tasks become!

Now get out there and write your goals!

Good Luck!
