Is this a mindset or something...eating...? (Part II)?

Question:
This has never happened in the past years, but now, every time I eat, I think "Oh no, it's going up my lungs", and I'm really not sure if the food is or not, and I feel something in my lungs (is it my imagination?) but afterwards I feel fine. Am I too paranoid, or is it really possible for food to go up your lungs when swallowing, and then breathing in afterwards? And, say some food really did go up my lungs, would you feel it for hours after?

And please don't say I have to go see a psychologist... :/ Any reassurance, anyone? I don't want to feel any worse!

Also, I know you guys say that I would be choking if the food actually went up my lungs...but what if they were small particles I accidently breathed up through my mouth...and say, if I'm eating a mint, and while I'm chewing the mint into dust, I inhale (because you breathe while chewing), and the dust goes into my lungs. Could this happen, and if it does, is it bad for me? I can't just like, NOT breathe while chewing! HELPP!

Answers:
Brooke,

If anything were getting into your lungs (like food), you would be very sick. If you're breathing fine with no coughing, wheezing and no fever, you're fine.

Perhaps you are experiencing heart burn or another type of acid reflux-type of problem? Are there any other symptoms? Have to discussed this with your doctor?

It SEEMS to me like this is all in your head. That doesn't make this any less of a problem for you. I had something similar happen to me as a child, and I couldn't swallow food because I was scared of choking. There was nothing physically wrong with my throat. I was having such severe anxiety in life that I developed psycho-sematic symptoms.

If this is the case with you, then counseling and perhaps anti-anxiety medicine may help you.

Has anything happened to you recently that would trigger your fear of food entering your lungs? Did you choke, or witness somebody else choke? Did you have a nightmare? Were you recently ill with a chest infection?

Hope I helped!
don't worry about it. you are just paranoid. even if sometimes, a little food does go down into your lungs, you will cough it up and be fine. try not to worry about it.
i would be stern with him . try this. go see him make him look you in the eyes tell him that he brought you in this world and you love him very much and tell him your going to need him in your life and its not fair that hes doing this to himself AND YOU tell him for many things in life your going to need him by your side and also tell his grandkids will need him also , tell him you want him there and state many things in life you want him there for. give him a big hug and tell you know he wont let you down . and remember to tell him you love him . i hope it works good luck.
ha ha ha you silly girl, go see a doctor
Nothing of the sort can happen because when you swallow a mechanism comes into effect that closes off your air pipe to let food go completely down to your stomach. So set your mind at rest. The Almighty was a pretty good engineer you know.
You have valve between your breathing tube and your eating tube. When swallowing, the breathing side is closed up. When breathing, your eating tube is closed. The only time there is a problem and food goes the wrong way, we are very aware of it by our choking mechanism. Stop worrying.

Blessed Be
