How do i find the source or remember the defining moment of my depression?

Question:
how do i trace my childhood memories if im not even sure what i was going through if anything at all

Answers:
Why childhood memories? You can get depressed at any time during your life.
But why be depressed when it is treatable? If you get the proper medications and counseling, you will no longer care about "defining moments". You will just enjoy life as you should.
Consider the possibility that your depression is simply a chemical imbalance. Try getting in optimal physical shape and eating a strict health-food diet. Take some fish oil, too.
You do not need find the source in order to change.

All emotions result in a chemical change in your body.

If you are depressed for a time some claim that it creates a chemical imbalance.

If you are generally happy that also produces a chemical change in your body.

Would it be fair to claim then that over time it will also create a chemical imbalance?

The source of any feeling is how you react to events in your mind. You can train your mind to have a choice of reactions.

It is your mind. You choose.
