Asperger's Syndrome?

Question:
I am sort of eccentric but never really thought there was anything wrong with me. However, my counselor has suggested that I might have a mild form of Asperger's Syndrome... do you think she could be right?

I am very much a loner, and wouldn't spend any time around people if that were possible. I like animals far better than I like people. I have not made eye contact with a person since 2001. I get very angry very easily, and when that happens I block the rest of the world out. I am extremely sensitive to sound and some motions... the sound of someone chewing gum or the sight of them tapping their foot can make me so angry that I start to cry. I've gotten very good grades all my life... I graduated high school with a 3.78 and a 30 on my ACT; I earned a fellowship from my university. I don't make rythmic movements, because that I get annoyed by that. I don't like being touched, even by people I know well. I am not obsessive but I can be irrationally sentimental sometimes, and I do

Yep. You sound like a textbook case of aspergers. How are you with change? If you came outside to suddenly find your car missing and a brand new car sitting in its place with a big bow on it with a note that said: "Happy birthday. Enjoy your new car. Your old one was crushed at the junkyard into a little cube," how would you react?

An aspie would be livid. A neurotypical would be ecstatic.
Sounds like it. You should look into it.
my son has a friend with asperger's, you sound exactly like him, so I would have to agree with your doctors diagnosis.
My 28 year-old son has Asperger's. Sounds like you may have a mild form of it. Another classic sign is that you do something very, very well.

I suggest you talk with your family doctor right away so you can get a true evaluation. It may do you a world of good.

Take care, I'll keep you in my prayers.
Hi,

Reading the brief description i would say yes. This is because i lived with my brother who has aspergers for 18 years. There is a simalarity between you both.

All i can suggest is to go bac to the doctors and see what they say.

Good luck
Is it really possible to not have made eye contact with someone since 2001?
Yes, that is very possible as there as signs that show it. I have Aspergers Syndrome and I admit that i'm slightly retarded and that automatically makes me a nerd because my learning skills are so poor that I have to read twice or thrice to remember a word.
Hi it sounds like you could well be. You know some people when you say autism freak out and think all kinds of things that are not true to all autistic people. you can have high functioning autism like aspergers and others on the autistic spectrum. At least if it is so it will give you an answer to some of the things that have been going on. take care
It sounds like you do. There is nothing you need to do. Just by you living your life you have learned to cope with it very well. You certianlly dont need to be fixed. You have the right to have your world your way as much as you do. If the sensory stuff really bothers you you may have sensory integration disorder and there is help for coping with that. Having Aspergers doesn't make you are and you certianallly are OK.
What surprises me is that your "counselor did not refer you to a professional (psychiatrist) who may possibly more accurately diagnose you with all the symptoms that you describe. Only a trained, experienced professional is able to do this for you. Perhaps there is a treatment that may diminish some of your symptoms. You really need to know what the problem is before it can be treated.
Good Luck
