There are dozens of drug-specific 12-step programs, but their meetings can be nearly impossible to attend if an addict isn't living in, or close to, a major metropolitan city.
Narcotics Anonymous is the granddaddy of 12-step fellowships geared towards general addiction. This includes alcohol. Alcohol *is* a drug. And yes, NA was founded upon the Alcoholics Anonymous model.

Then examine the various links that pop up...
And choose one that sounds like a place where people can go to get help...
Check you local phone book. There will be places in your area.

You'll learn the twelve step program, similar to AA (Alcoholics Anonymous) which is the most proven method of keeping people sober, but this is for people with drug addiction. If you follow it, it will work wonders.

Start with your doctor. He/she will be able to give you some suggestions of who to talk to or where you should go for an in-patient rehab.
