I think my answer may be a little late, but we are not "sober" in NA we are simply "clean". It is a 12 step, self help program that is not for people that need it...It is however for people that want it. NA is a non profit fellowship or society of men and women for whom drugs had become a major problem. We are recovering addicts who meet regularly to help each other stay clean. This is a program of COMPLETE abstinence from ALL drugs. The only requirement for membership is the desire to stop using. This is a spiritual not religious program. For more information go to na.org.
Narcotics Anonymous is a support group for those who wish to quit using narcotic drugs.

N.A. is a bunch of tweekers sitting in a circle for an hour or so and they speak in a circle one then the next in line they introduce themselves by standing up when it is heir turn and say "Hi,I'm bob and I've been sober for 47 days" (or howeverlong) Then they talk about their sucess and they folow by the twelve step program.

I've known some people who go to narcotics anonymous but I personally haven't been. I think it helps some and doesn't help others, mainly because I think some are more commited to it than others. I can't imagine anything more constricting than being addicted to drugs. Your whole life would be about getting your next fix or getting money for your next fix. Talk about prison...even if you aren't in jail. I feel bad for people who just try it once then get addicted. My sister works with addicts and they are football players, doctors, etc. who got addicted to pain pills then when they couldn't get those anymore switched to heroine. They've lost everything, their families, their jobs, their friends. It's really sad. I wish there was a better way for us to keep kids from starting because it will ruin their lives.
I wouldn't be addicted to drugs because I don't take unprescribed drugs or hang around anyone that use them.
