I don't understand it...why are there so many??

Question:
You watch To Catch A Predator and there are tons of guys getting caught...nevermind the ones they caught that didn't make it to the TV show, AND not to mention the ones that have yet been caught...I just don't understand why there are SOooo many sex offenders. What is going on in the brains of men (and woman) these days who think its ok to abuse young children? WHY are they even sexually attracted to them in the first place? Is it just me or are there just pedophiles EVERYWHERE? I can't understand the mentality of wanting to be sexual with a 3 year old. Or anyone under the age of 18 in the first place. Is it because of the provocative clothes they have on the market these days that make these girls actually look like sexual beings...even though thats not an excuse...but isn't this just waving bloody meat in front of a crocodile? I know I'm not going to find an absolution here...I'm just wondering what other peoples takes are on why there is such a HUGE rise in it.

Answers:
I am sorry to have to tell you this but there has not been huge rise in this type of offending, it has always gone on. The biggest difference is that we all get to know about it in a very loud and public way that exaggerates the amount whilst trying at the same time to minimise the seriousness. Neither is right. As to the perpetrators; it is not about sex, it is about power and manipulation. These are pathetic people who feel powerless and so target those less powerful that they are. They are also the typical playground bully and so are often cruel as well as perverted. The reality for many offenders is that they also become addicted to the danger and the fantasy of the planning, which makes them increasingly dangerous. All the talk about drug treatments to remove the sex drive is nonsense and won't work, the only thing that works long-term is a confrontational offenders group in the community that not only supervises but challenges. These groups used to be part of the Probation Service in Britain but have largely been dropped because of the cost. Sad but True.
I don't think there is one particular answer to this question. However, I do think this is partly publicity. Most people are appalled at the thought of doing anything sexual with children and can't even begin to imagine why anyone would want to do things like that with kids in the first place. The news is always looking for big stories to get people's attention. Pedophilia is a topic that hits most people's buttons because they are so disgusted by it, so the news runs lots of stories about it, so it seems like there has been this huge rise in pedophiliacs. There has probably not been an increase or decrease in the amount of pedophilia that is occurring recently...more people are just talking about it now, whereas it used to be completely taboo. I work in adolescent mental health and it seems like every other kid we get has been sexually abused. I don't remember anyone ever talking about sexual abuse when I was little (I'm 26 now) or knowing anybody who had been through it. The only information I ever got as a kid was the whole "strangers-good-touch, bad-touch" lecture. It is easy to think that there is more pedophilia out there right now, but it's hard to tell what's really going on.
Statistics are saying that one out of every 3 girls and one out of every 8 boys with experience some form of sexual abuse before the age of 18.
I am a survivor.
Im going to stand out on a limb here and say its not more prevalent, its just coming out more in the media.
It needs to stop.It doesnt matter if your wearing the tiniest shorts or the lowest of blouses.NO means NO.And parents need to take responsibility for their kids wardrobe choices - as my brother in law says - this is not a democracy -its a benevolent dictatorship :).My niece and nephew have boundaries around activites and what they wear and when.
Kids or young adults are going to experiment with their bodies. It is us who need to teach them about privacy and what is acceptable & what isnt.
