Contact your health insurance provider. Most major providers now have case managers who are dedicated to helping you find the correct care that you need. If you are not comfortable with that I suggest that you contact Children's Hospital in Cincinnati and talk with one of thier social workers. Hope this helps.

This is one of those unique areas where a psychologist is what you want and not a doctor. Specifically, one who has experience with aspergers.
On one end of the spectrum you have doctors that deny that aspergers even exists. On the other end, you have psychologist that think every kid with a problem has aspergers.
You didn't really describe your kid's symptoms, so its hard to say. Some of the things you talked about do sound aspie-like, but there just isn't enough information to say for sure,
There is also schizoid personality disorder which has very similar symptoms to aspergers. Fortunately, its much more rare.
Anger and self-mutilation are common with aspergers. They result from the victim being unable to communicate his feelings with others. Also, it results from forced and/or surprise changes - even when its something you might think would be a good change. Also, there is frustration at how other people treat them.
So in short, if its aspergers, you need to get the boy, and his parents, into therapy counseling so that he can better learn how to deal with it.
