How can I get my doctor to test me for ADHD?

Question:
I live in Houston TX When I was in grade school almost every teacher told my mother and my grandparents that I needed to be tested for ADD and she doesn't believe in psychology so didn't bother I have friends who have it pretty bad and they tell me that they're sure I have it they're really concerned about me Unfortunately I don't have traditional insurance socialized medicine (the Harris County Hospital District if anyone is famliar) I have gone to their psyciatrists and I got the run around for ever that I might have depression and that's why I have many symptoms of ADHD (I took the web MD quiz and answered "yes" to almost every answer) I am having trouble focusing enough to pass my classes, and I have wasted thousands of dollars on my education as a result. 50% of the classes I have attempted altogether I have dropped, but that number has gotten worse as the years progress I'm sick of wasting money on education and I want help but they keep saying that it might be something else

Answers:
The University of Houston used to have an excellent testing program for ADD/ADHD. It was in the same building as Univ. Counseling Services (2nd floor). University Counseling Services (at least in the past) accepted community clients (for a small fee). It might be worth a phone call to see if they still do this. Unless you are over age 18, however, you will require parental consent (this is pretty standard).

The phone # is 713-743-5454 .

Best of luck,

p.s. You would be wise to go to your local library and locate a copy of a book called "Driven to Distraction". After you read it, put little flags/ post it notes on the sections you feel apply most to you, and then ask your parents to review it, as well.
You might have hypoglycemia. Fatigue, insomnia, mental confusion, anxiety, nervousness, mood swings, faintness, headaches, depression, phobias, heart palpitations, a craving for sweets, cold hands and feet, forgetfulness, dizziness, blurred vision, inner trembling, outbursts of temper, sudden hunger, allergies, and crying spells are all symptoms of hypoglycemia.

Look, if you sat down long enough to write this BOOK of a question, your problem is NOT ADHD. You're just a hyperactive kid! *shrug* Read a book! concentrate your efforts into something like that.
First thing tell your parents and/or family how you feel about it and that you would like to take a test. Then talk to your doctor about taking the test. Chances are you don't have ADHD but it's better for you to do the right thing.
ok, first of all i have ADD, and when i was first diagnosed i was in disbelief.. but even with all this modern technology they DON'T have a test for ADHD... all u get is a Doctor who listens to what happens to you and then they say weither or not it's ADHD or somethin else... then useally they perscribe medication and it really helps. and i still don't believe my docter so i could be wrong about all this... but anyway... good luck!!
Tell your doctor you think you have ADHD and would like to be tested for it.
