Can being depressed make you do things that you wouldn't normally do if you weren't?

Question:
Like doing things that you know now are wrong and are shocked by them but you couldn't see that at the time?

Answers:
Yes. Being depressed can give you all sorts of urges that you would not normally have. However, if you do something 'wrong' and 'bad' you cannot blame it ALL on the depression, as you are the one to commit the act.

If you think you are depressed, you should tell someone you trust and look for help. There are MANY ways to treat depression, including medications. Depression is a real physical condition, and shouldn't be ignored or underestimated.

If you are not sure but want more complete information (without having to go to a family member just yet) google Symptoms of Depression and you should get a better idea of what to look for.
Depends on how stupid you are.
like temporary insanity?

I could see that...
you cant b serius
yes, being depressed does make you acted differently than you normal would. when someone is depressed they either soak into it further or do things to try to get themselves out. sounds like you were doing something to try to get yourself out and it wasn't the best choice. it happens to the best of us, just try to be more aware of your actions especially if you know your state of mind.
Yes, it can.
Maybe. But usually substance abuse, not depression, causes you to do things that are wrong, but only find out later.

In my own experience, depression causes you to NOT do things that you normally would if you weren't-- like do things with friends, attend social events, pay attention to your interests and hobbies, and even go to work.
Yes, depression can cause you to do things that you wouldn't even consider before.like trying to commit suicide.who in their right mind would try that? or (in my case) standing in the middle of a fairly busy street in the middle of the night with my eyes closed daring somebody to come on and run over me..just be sure to hit me hard enough to kill me.How stupid can a person get? It's almost embarrassing now to look back and remember doing it.just outside of one of our local mental hospitals no less.
So to answer your question yes depression can make you do "stupid" stuff that you wouldn't even consider if you weren't depressed.
