Can risperdal make you feel slower, and deaden your personality?

Question:
Ive been on risperdal for a few months, and my mind feels slower. I constantly worry that my personality has vanished, and that I've lost intellectual abilities. Also the ability to express thoughts and emotions seems to be reduced. Does anybody have this experience with Risperdal or other antipsychotics, and will it go away when I come off them? Thanks.

Answers:
Absolutely. Risperal "gums up" your brain...A psychiatrist told me this. It's not one of the side effects that goes away with time. Everything you've just described, my loved one experienced until they were no longer on it. You have to weigh out the benefits with the side effects. (don't let anyone tell you this isn't true. you know yourself better than anyone else and opinions come from everyone.)
I take risperdal, and I haven't had any problems like you're describing. I think it would depend upon how much you are taking. I am only on a VERY small dose just to help me sleep. You should definitely talk to the doctor that prescribed it for you before you make any decisions. Let me know what you end up doing. Good luck!
