Does anyone know how you can supress anxiety?

Question:
I am an anxious person sometimes. i panic if i haven't heard from certain people and worry about silly things. Is there anything on the market than can calm u down?? Apart from vodka that is.

Answers:
You first need to get to the bottom of your anxiety - anxiety is fear suppressed. What are you afraid of? Figure out what the root cause of your fear is, what triggers it - and then consciously try to "capture" your thought and "let it go" before it mushrooms into full-blown anxiety. Meditate, exercise, try yoga, these all change the patterns in your brain.

Or you can take Sam-E, St. John's Wort, etc.
But just remember that treats the symptoms, not the cause.

I too am an anxious person. I was told by my doctor to deep breathe 10 times in the am and 10 times in the pm. Breathe in very slowly, fill your lungs up to capacity, hold for 10 secs and breathe out as slowly as possible. It works - it calms your heart-rate, lowers blood pressure, etc. I also try to exercise 3x a week and meditate after I do deep breathing. Exercise helps immensely.

Best of luck to you. You are not alone that's for sure.
Pop a few pills
Don't suppress, express. Speak your anxieties out loud or write them in a journal. Don't forget to breathe, deep breaths in and out.
Exercise! Get off your duff and exercise. It works.
Rescue Remedy - homeopathic drops specifically designed to relieve anxiety.
I suffer with exactly the same thing i worry about everything and sometimes it gets so bad i cant think of anything else.
I take 5-HTP which i have just started taking but you could also try St Johns wart .
Try talking to ppl as well that helps especially i find talking to ppl who are goin through the same thing.
chin up and hope this is helpful
Consult a doctor about your anxiety. But for an activity, keep your mind occupied like taking up sports, a hobby.
And don't worry too much. The more you worry, the more you are feeding your anxieties.
In my experience it is a better idea to try to work through anxiety than to attempt to supress it. Taking up pottery, playing an instrument, baking your own bread or even doing the laundry are the sort of practical hands-on activities that will help you to do this.
You have a type A personality and will be a worrier till the day you die, it's just you although they are calling everything bi-polar these days, there could be some truth to it. I think it's just a form of over imagination which could be put to good use by writing your thoughts down in a journal and perhaps thinking about a short story or book.

Has a certain tune played through your head and you couldn't get it out, or counted the concrete blocks as you walked down the street, or worry that you left your gas, water, or lights on? I think these things are normal, until they start to take over your thought patterns and get in the way of your normal activities.(smile)

When you find yourself getting all worked up over some inconsequential thought or circumstance say to yourself wait a minute, this is ridiculous take a deep breath and proceed to another activity or train of thought. If you practice this process it will help you to over come your anxiety which I think is a better way to go than a pill, and unless you feel you are going out of control, ( and if you do you should really see a good therapist) you can calm yourself down with this small pratice of self-hypnosis. Good luck!
When you start feeling anxious...Talk logically to yourself.
Make yourself look into what is making you anxious and ask yourself if there is anything concrete to be really worried about. If you see for yourself that you are worrying unnecessarily because worrying is not going to change anything, then you should be able to control your thinking.

If you haven't heard from someone for a while...Tell yourself that no news is good news.
If for instance you worry about death..(I do sometimes; either mine or my children's)
Just tell yourself that whatever will be will be and there is nothing you can do to prevent it if it comes.so no point worrying.

Basically, you talk yourself out of anxiety. Only you can do it.
