Wellbutrin is the only med that is supposed to not have weight gain as a common side effect. I have heard that prozac (fluoxetine) can cause appetite supression therefore resulting in weight loss for a while, but after you been taking it for awhile that stops, and many people will start to gain weight. If you keep getting depressed, then maybe you should try to take the meds for a longer period of time. Give it more time to change up your brain. I am on Wellbutrin. It is the only antidepressant that has worked for me. All the others I tried made me sick and angry, or just didnt work. I have heard good things about cymbalta, but I dont know about its effects on weight. Try to google some of these things. You can find out alot of cool stuff!
You need to discuss this w a doc. but Lexapro and paxil has helped alot of teens and young pple my doctor said.Lexapro doesnt cause weight gain I heard. I havent tried it. but you should talk to your doctor because meds affect every1 differently.
First of all what's a few pounds compared to depression? I take wellbutrin for 4 years now, and I am a happy camper, no depression. I'm 41, I started suffering from depression at age 16, too bad there was no wellbutrin back then. You really should not take yourself off of meds like that, you should leave that up to your doctor, obviously you needed to stay on them. Most psych drugs are going to slow your metabolism, so will aging. You might start a walking program to counteract the weight gain. If wellbutrin worked for you you should stick with it, and you shouldn't let yourself suffer with depression, it's just no way to live.
Generally speaking, any of the newer anti-depressants (SSRI's) will have a less sedating affect in my experience, like Prozax, Effexor...almost all the newer ones. Wellbutrin supposedly works with other neuro transmitters besides Serotonin. After tying most all, all the SSRI"S drove my anxiety so ended up with Wellbutrin. But in the end, do your research so you can have an intelligent discussion with your doc. which you must do
i am on welbutrin xl, and it was in combination with zoloft 100 mg, but i know zoloft is a bad drug, so I took myself off it, and now feel much better with just welbutrin xl. 150 mg
