Answers:
Your GAD, agoraphobia and social anxiety disorder should lessen with time and treatment. As with most anti-depressants, it may take a few weeks for you to feel the full effects of the drug. Paroxetine is a very popular and highly effective drug for those with GAD and other anxiety disorders and phobias.
Are you not eating well because you don't want to gain weight or because you're just not hungry? If it's the latter, that's a common side effect of anti-depressant medications.
I completely understand your nervousness about talking to people about these issues. However, I can't stress enough the importance of having a support system in place! If you really don't want to talk to friends or family, I highly recommend seeing a psychologist to talk things through. Sometimes, just talking about your feelings out loud and getting everything off your chest makes such a big difference. Plus, a third party is able to look at your situation with a fresh perspective. I really, really think that would be a step in the right direction for you, and I hope you look into it.
Those of us with anxiety (myself included) tend to hyperfocus on everything in our lives, such as the food we eat, the way we look, what we say, etc. You've made the biggest step -- getting help and admitting that something's not right. I know it's probably easier said than done, but now is the time to focus on getting healthy and taking care of yourself physically and mentally. You're on the right track with the medication, but eating well can help, too. If you can, try to push all those other concerns aside for now and focus on getting better. Also, meditation and deep breathing exercises helped me calm my nerves... maybe it'll work for you, too.
Best of luck!
Eating well will make you feel better. I get panick attacks and one of the things the doctor told me to do is drink lots of fluids and eat good meals. And Being 5'11 and 120lbs is really skinny so dont be afraid to eat. Exercise also make you feel better because it causes your body to produce beta-endorphines, which boost your mood and confidence.
Hi, sorry to hear you’re feeling so bad. The following steps will eliminate (or at least significantly reduce) your panic attacks:
1.Breathe properly - if you control your breathing, you control panic. As soon as you notice the signs of anxiety, check your breathing: breathe in slowly through your nose pushing your tummy out (to the count of 5 or so). Breathe out slowly and for a bit longer (to the count of 7 or so) through your mouth. Do not breathe rapidly or shallowly (in the chest area). This will soon restore the balance of oxygen and you will feel a lot better.
2. Cognitive Behavioural Therapy! CBT is proven to be the most effective thing for panic attacks GAD and social anxiety etc. It takes a bit of work, but it is super effective. (After 15 years of panic attacks, mine stopped completely). You can speak to your doctor about taking a course or you can take a course for free online at: www.livinglifetothefull.com
3. Try relaxation exercise tapes (progressive muscular relaxation). They really help if you practise often enough. You can get free downloads online, e.g. http://www.studentservices.utas.edu.au/c...
With each step practise makes perfect. (i.e. practise the steps every day, not just when you are feeling bad). I hope you feel better soon. Best of luck!
