Anxiety and work??

Question:
I am 16 and suffer anxiety/social anxiety.
I have just started working (part-time in the holidays when I'm off school). I'm really hating it at the moment. I work in a Cafe/restaurant. the worst part is that I have to call out table numbers when their food is ready.
Those who suffer with anxiety, how do you cope? I am really self-conscious aswell. I feel as though I must come across to the others as being slow and dim... just because I have to think things through and take my time to cope with it. They are not aware of my anxiety problems, I think they must just think I'm shy.
I don't feel as though it'll ever get better. I have worked there 4 times (today will be my 5th) and already I want to leave!

How did everyone else cope with the clash with work and their anxiety??

:(

Answers:
you're young enough to get another job, something that doesn't involve front of house work
i have anxiety too.. idk if its social anxiety or what it just happens alll the time. I went to my doctor for it and they sent me to a person thats specialized in panic attacks. They gave me this machine called the alpha stim that just hooks onto my ears like head phones kinda. You wear it for about 30 minutes a day and it really seems to help. So idk if thats something that you would want to look into or not. But you can search it online and get some info on it and see what you think!!
Life's not easy!

Nerves can be overwhelming sometimes. I attended a dance festival at which my youngest daughter's class put on a montage from Wizard of Oz. The little girl playing the Cowardly Lion was very frightened about going out on stage.

She did go out there when the class got an encore.

I think your shyness stems from lack of confidence and experience of facing people in general. I feel sure that as you relax and take this job in your stride, you will lose some of your inhibition and shyness, and therefore your anxiety.

Good luck
I think you are only shy. If you can keep doing it, then its not anxiety or nerves trouble.
You are just basically a shy person and you will learn to cope with it better as you get older.

YOU ARE COPING NOW ...Aren't you?
donno sory
Hey what kind of a holiday is this? Whoes big idea was this one?
Two ways to go. Stick with it or leave it. Either way be happy with your descision. No-one can dictate your life. Only you can create your happiness. Life can be a pain, if you let it. So look around for what you REALLY want, and go in that direction. A friend when asked how his job was going said, when when it goes well its great. When its not, its just a job.
If its a pain, then get something else going, anything you want to be involved in. The cash can wait, and anyway you can get more than pennies, go for the big money. Believe its waiting for you to turn up, really.
As long as your employers are satisfied with your work (and they would tell you if they weren't) you must be doing fine however you feel inside.
How you come across to others is not always how you *think* that you do - again you must be doing fine or someone would have told you.
Do not leave unless you are desperate - see it through and your achievement in doing that will boost your morale and confidence (and bank balance!).
Try to get involved in a drama group - you needn't go on stage but help out backstage and learn techniques to improve your confidence and self-image by watching others.
Good luck - and don't be so hard on yourself!
Best wishes,
Joan.
I feel bad for you. I have the same problem, but when I have major anxiety problems. I start to shake, and I fall to the ground. Think of somthing happy, or someone that you want to be with. that always helps me. Or mabey, Its just that you dont enjoy your job, making your self estine and respect levels go down.

good luck!

Oh sweetie, I really feel for you. i have suffered from social anxiety for over a year and I am 24, you are only 16! Please go to the doctor. I went and I am on tablets to control my anxiety, plus I attend anxiety classes. It is all helping. I used to waitress until I could no longer work on the till because i used to tremble because of my nervousness. It is a rottern thing, anxiety. I ended up having to work behind the scenes in the kitchen but hated it so I quit. Your health and happiness has to come first babe. I am now working in a night club and I am so happy. Plus I am doing a writing course which helps as it keeps my mind active.
Please do not suffer, go to the doctors and then get to the job centre or search on line for jobs. Good luck to you x
I don't have anxiety but I am a VERY shy person.
I just started working at a place where I have to shout over a microphone and get people to come to me and play a game.
Then when I get there attention I have to explain the game and convince them to play.
It took me a few weeks to be able to do that but once I got past being shy about that it helped me relax.
The thought that really helped me was just knowing that I wasn't going to see the people that I was talking to ever again so now it doesn't really bother me as much anymore.
I don't know if this will help but good luck.
Hi there. I suffer from it too. I have had it for a while. It can come in many forms. I have had headaches (I was convinced I had a brain hemmorage) or chest pains (convinced I had heart problems) or maybe tounge going numb (convinced I was going to swallow it) and general worrying about everything. It's a hard thing to combat. A good thing to do is go to your Doctor and ask for a Beta blocker called Propranolol. It helps avoid panic attacks a heck of a lot. It doesnt stop you worrying only you can do that. Nothing you take can stop that. You should see a counciller or something similar for that. Remember it is in your mind and that you are fine.
I have anxiety too. Work wise, I let my supervisors know about my condition and how it sometimes affects me if I get stressed. I have found that they'll be understanding and let you take a breather or go vent to them just to try and get it off your chest. Also sometimes they'll give you time to cool down. Have you ever tried zoloft? It's really really helped me :)
I think that it's something that you just have to overcome yourself.slowly but surely you'd get there as long as you want to change, and your around supporting people...and the job could be a plus to help you move a step forward being more comfortable around people...but if it's too stressing maybe try to take a step back onto a less public job for the meantime... my b/f has this + he didnt show any change untill he put thru the effort to take risks on making changes...and slowly but surely things are coming around . they will...don't give up hope :)
Well... Hmmm. Have you tried talking to ur boss about ur problem? Talk to him/her and just say, Mr(s). ____ i have anxiety/social anxiety and i cant do ______. Is there maybe something esle i could do, that would help me feel better, and improve my working skills?
