Slowly over the past year I have quit everything that I am addicted to or that I knew was bad for me?

and now I am really depressed and life seems really boring. what should i do? and do you think i was doing all these other things because maybe i just had depression all along, or do you think living this way for so long it has caused me to be depressed with out these things?

ya you were self medicating yourself, sort of treating yourself with meds. There is help out there for depression, just remember you are still in recovery and will be for the rest of your life. I am proud of you for quitting your addiction. I know it is hard. But that is just the first step, now it is time to rebuild your mind emotional and spiritually. Recovery is a long journey (lifetime) Dealing with the depression is just the next step. Depression is deadly so do not take it lightly, if you were into drugs, then you already know that it is destructive.

I would really like to congratulate you on your progress, quitting addictions are extremely tough. But you need people to talk to, to keep you away from your addictions.

Please see a therapist if you are depressed. This is their specialty, and depression only leads to worse things, including addiction. Please see a therapist! Good luck. We are all happy for you!
I was doing that but I found that the odd treat isn't cheating.
I cut out chocolate and all the sugar and salt.
I've given myself permission to have the odd treat and it's made all the difference. Something to look forward to, like a reward. Back to my old self but healthier.
Congratulations on quitting your addictions. I think that you were depressed all along. An addiction is usually a crutch to help you get through something. I quit smoking but when something horrible happened last year, I started to smoke again, but I have quit since.
First of all congratulations! And what you are talking about are withdrawl symptoms, you are without things that gave you pleasure, so you are experiencing depression/sadness as a side effect. You may think that if you are depressed, that you shouldnt have given up these things, but know that it is only temporary. In the long run, you will be healthier and happier knowing that you are living a life without these "crutches" to help you through when the truth is, they did not help at all.

Do something nice for yourself, you deserve it and you should also be very proud of yourself.
Well, that's how withdrawal goes. You were psychologically dependent on those things, and it'll take awhile to get past that. Kudos for figuring out what's best for you and acting on it, but you have more to do before you can really enjoy the benefits. You can get your adrenaline rush in healthy ways, new hobbies or sports, etc. Look up events, classes, and activities in your area and try something that you've always been interested in but never got around to before. Free or regular newspapers, public message boards, and the ever useful internet are good places to try. Now that you've got a clean slate to work with, you can fit all kinds of new things into your life.
