Any simple remedies for Seasonal depression?

Question:
I live with someone who suffers from Seasonal Affective Disorder. Fall until Spring they are very aggressive and agitated. Ive tried light therapy and herbals for them...not much change. Any ideas?

Answers:
It matters what time the light is taken. Most people with SAD need it in the morning, but some (like me) need it in the evening. He could try taking it at a different time, or for a longer time, or with brighter lights, and see if that helps. Try getting outdoors as much as possible, and getting exercise.

If the depression is strong enough, anti-depressants might be a good idea.

Good luck!
Light therapy is the most often used one. Regular exercise helps boost the mood naturally. Antidepressants may help. Meditation, hot showers, and exercise helps me.
tell him/her to take long breaths and release slowly for several times. this may help or take hypnosis help from your nearest expert.
I used my own form of light therapy with a bit of success dealing with winters in New Hampshire.

It's really simple too. All I did was to buy the clear light bulbs, 100 and some 200 watts. Turn a few on for the evening hours and go about my normal business of reading or watching TV...It seemed to help. I got it really bright and was in this for probably 4-5 hours a day. I don't think anything of the order of 20 minutes would have worked. The "special" lights they sell that you sit in front of just didn't seem bright enough. Also I question if they even have the correct spectrum, one that matches sunlight. For that you want bright white light. A friend of mine who wintered in Antarctica said that's what they use to get though months of darkness.

For getting up in the morning I bought a 24 hour plug in timer and had it turn on a light bulb about 1/2 hour before I wanted to be awake. This worked like a charm and needed a regular bulb 50 watts or so.

Is the person you are talking about from a sunnier climate?
I was born in Texas but New Hampshire was terrible for me.
Florida was better but Arizona is best, where I live now.

Good luck, it is a bummer for those that are effected
Jack Daniels works for me.
