I start praying when I feel depressed. I also participate in therapy and try to get out and do something outside in the fresh air. That should help you out. Contact me if you ever feel like you need to talk.
I've been dealing with depression for about ten years. It's tough. Here's part of a list I made up (when I was feeling fine) about things that might cheer me up:
go for a walk
call a friend to talk
spend time with family
listen to relaxing music
have a bath
meditate
do some yoga
read "The Blue Day Book" by Bradley Trevor Greive
take care of your self
Probably the most important thing to do when you're depressed is to surround yourself with positive people. Tell your friends and family members you feel down, and talk about it to them. It's much easier to cheer up with help from people that love you.
Try making up your own list of things to do when you feel down. Or make a list of 100 things you love; it'll help remind you that there are some really great things in the world.
I've struggled with depression for about nine years. It's VERY hard to find anything that helps lift the depression but I try to be around lots of people, it helps take my mind off me. Being alone is the worst when you're depressed, it gives you time of focus on all the horrible aspects of life and how your life sucks.
I have found it helpful to journal and to talk to friends who care and are supportive.
I try to really do things for myself that I enjoy...
take a walk
read a book
take a shower/bath
cuddle with my dog
watch TV with hubby
call a friend/relative
organize things around the house
plan a day out of the house
sleep
journal
I think it's so easy to fall into a "funk" but mine doesn't last very long if I do something I really enjoy. My therapist told me to make a list of things I really enjoy doing so that if I ever feel down, I can refer back to it for immediate ideas.
pray and take a nap
