Why do teens want mental illness these days? Is it considered cool or something?
Question:
No im being serious. Im not disregarding those who are actually ill, but im not a teen anymore and it seems to be the 'in thing' amongst them.
Answers:
How sad to think that someone would feel that mental illness is "cool". I am certain that, if any of these individuals were forced to spend time in a mental health facility they would change their mind very quickly. best wishes
I don't think this is the right place for you to vent about your anger towards people with depression and how they go about it. You might as well tie a rope around their neck and push them off the chair by being so ignorant towards this issue. why don't you post this in polls or somewhere else and try to be a little less insensitive.
Trust me you'll go further in life not being so angry.
I agree with you. A lot of teemagers (not all) think they appear "deep" if they act the role. You know the goths, dressed in black, reading Satre, complaining how hard their life is even though people with bigger problems out there exisit. It's unfortunate because there are kids out there who do cry for help and it's overlooked because some of them give a bigger show.
I am 14 years old, and at my school, people aren't like that.
We are who we are. And some people are fakes, and like attention. But not always by trying to have a mental disease.
And cutting isn't in. I have been cutting since December, but that is because of the way my family life is, not because I want to get attention by being "mentally ill".
I only know 3 other people who cut.
Its not in.
Mental disease isn't in.
I'm a teenager... and I don't think its cool to have a mental illness. I cut... but I deffinitely wish I didn't. It's just addicting... I don't know. Some people cut, or want mental illnesses for attention I guess. I wish I would have never started... and I started cutting when I was 11... So I wasn't even a teen. If you're reading this and you feel want to start cutting... PLEASE DONT! It's an addicting stupid habit.
I don't think this is the right place for you to vent. There are people here seeking help for their problems. Reading your little rant can make them upset - or even more upset than they already are. If you tell a deeply depressed person who cuts that they are simply doing it because it's "fashionable", don't you think that's going to make them feel even worse?
Come on man. I understand that you must feel slightly strongly about the issue, but you should at least have the decency to respect and understand that not everyone here is going to accept that you are only addressing those who find it "cool" to have a mental illness - and I don't even think there's that many people who do find it cool.
I used to have depression and your rant would not be helpful at all. I think it's safe to say that the majority of people who visit the mental health section are either seeking advice for a problem or giving advice for a problem. Suddenly throwing in a pissy rant like that to teenagers who have mental problems will make them feel like you are making their issues out to be nothing more than a desire for "coolness".
No, mental illnesses are not considered cool by teens. I have one friend who cut his wrists and ppl made fun of him for an entire year before he ran away (for other reasons that the ppl at school). i have a cousin who was on meds for depression, and not only was she made fun of by my family, but the ppl at school belittled her for being on the meds. ppl who have mental illnesses try to keep them quiet, or else they are made fun of...
