Hello, I ask that everyone take their time and read this for me, really help.?

Question:
I am a 59 years old and was always told by my mother and grandmother that I ate lead paint as a child and that is why I have seizures, I have mild petit seizures. Last year my neurologist put me in the hospital for 4 days to monitor me because he wanted to change my medicine but wanted to see my reaction without my medicine. I have had brain waves all my life and was told that my seizures come from the left side of my brain. After the 4 days the doctor said I got sick but they were not seizures but some kind of anxiety attacks, I do not know what this is, My doctor also told me that for 59 years I have been taken the wrong medicine because I am not an epileptic. I am now seeing a psychiatrist to see why I get sick. I was taking 3 medicines for seizures but now I take 2 medicines for seizures and 1 for anxiety. Please give me some advice,. How do I handle this? I still get sick with these feelings of seizures.

Answers:
well if for 59 years you have been taking medication for eplipsy you may have formed a mental dependency on them. For 59 years you believed you had seziures, its not uncomon to still "feel" sick even when youve been told that your not. This feeling will pass with time and some thearpy if needed.
I'm assuming this is a relatively new dr. since said you have been taking the wrong medicine for 59 yrs.. I would get a second opinion. 59 years is a long time to think that you are having seizures then have someone tell you that it's not. Get a second opinion to clear up the confusion. Take the records with you. I wouldn't ask the doctor to recommend someone though. Good Luck I hope that you get to the bottom of this and get better soon.
If you dont get seizures than you should stop taking the meds. You should only focus on your anxiety..relax...take xanex. too many meds can make you sicker in the long run. And after 59 years of taking the wrong one...I think you need a break.
Any advice you get fromY/A will not help. Get a second opinion from a competent medical professional.
Well I am an epileptic. I've had petit seizures and epilepsy for most of my life, i was diagnosed at age 9, im 24 now. My siezures for the most part were just simple blackouts. I was put on kolonopin at age 9 when i was diagnosed, but i found out now that's some kind of anxiety medication.
I hadn't been on meds since after i was out of elementary school. Within the last 3 years or so I actually started having full-blown seizures, doctors has put me on carbatrol to control them but the docotrs had told me my seizures were stress related.
Dealing with it is just that, you have to deal with it. I've only had about 3 or 4 real seizures though since ive grown up. And I'm no longer on meds.
Well, I've had anxiety/depression for ever! I finally went to the docs and he put me on Depakote. Well, that's for seizures and schitzophrenics! I still had the mood disorder, plus I felt like a human slug! I went to another doc..and another, now I'm on Paxil. I did have to try a few meds to see what worked with my body chemistry. But, it was worth it, cuz I feel pretty darn good!...Anxiety can manifest itself in so many ways.: Dizziness, disorientation, nausea, panic, morbid thinking, racing thoughts, heart palpitations, tremors, and sometimes it might feel like your'e having a coronary! ...Or like your'e gonna just lose control of your senses and "whig out!". Long term anxiety is usually diagnosed as seratonin problem in your brain. The hormone isn't released like it should and it forces a rush of adrenalin into our brains. (sometimes over practically nothing!) We get the fight or flight response and our body and mind reacts. And after it's all over, your left drained and depressed. During an attack, you may feel like your being suffocated. It's just that during the adrenaluin rush, we actually breathe in too much oxygen, so we have to consciously slow er down! I think if your taking a sedative like xanax or ativan, you must take an antidepressent. My mom takes just the ativan and still feels crummy! She's at the E.R. for panic attacks at least twice a month!I hope I was some help to ya. Get another opinion. Doctors aren't gods, although some may think so! ha!
