A serious question about mental illness?

Question:
i know, i have been drinking a lot more than i should, but a couple of weeks ago my brother told me when we were camping that i was talking to people who werent even there (they were other family members who had gone to sleep already) is it possible to develop a mental illness from over indulging in alcohol? im scared that i will start hearing voices all the time now...

thanks for all your opinions and answers

no the worst you can get from acholhol is being drunk
UH YES. IT HAPPENS ALL THE TIME WHEN PEOPLE DRINK. IT IS A SIDE AFFECT OF DRINKING. NOW IF YOU ARE HEARING IT WHILE NOT DRINKING THEN YOU HAVE A PROBLEM.
It's possible to develop alcoholism from drinking too much alcohol (duh!). Alcoholics have a lot of different symptoms.
Yes go see a doctor because your symptoms occur to people who have drinking heavily.
if you were drinking i could see it happening. if you know you drink to much why not work on that and then everything else will come around
It sounds like maybe you have other problems than just drinking. I would see a therapist.
well its certainly possible to cause brain damage from excessive use - i dont know if that qualifies as a "mental" illness or not. Take it for it it is - a warning that you cant handle your alcohol - its best if you leave it alone. trust me on this one. dont wait until something bad happens
ummm i rly dunno bcs im not a doctor but just stop drinking and see what happens, if you still talk 2 ppl who arnt there than go see a doctor.
maybe you have schizophrenia. alcohol will intensify this. please see a mental health specialist. good luck.
I think it is possible but only if you are pre-disposed to the condition, I would check out the mayo clinics website about the possible causes of mental disease.
Sounds like you need to quit drinking for awhile usually if your talking to people you aren't there means you drank way to much for your body to handle. Are you under any other stressors right now or did something serious happen to you or a family member in the recent past. There has to be a reason your drinking more than normal, so take a breather and do a bit of thinking with no alcohol you could be trying to cover up some unresolved issues and have Post Tramatic Stress Syndrome, please think about it. You won't start hearing voices all time but you need to help your body and mind right away and give it a break from alcohol, okay, and Good luck the best to you, really.
alcohol makes people crazy.
Drinking will drop your defenses to negativity and bad energy gets to you. thus a hangover.

After the experience you described, I wouldn't understand if you chose to drink again.
drinking can make it worse
