Is Bipolar a disability? legally?
Question:
Answers:
It can be. Bipolar Disorder has a wide range of severity. People with more severe forms of the illness may qualify for SSI benefits.
Depends on how severe it is. There are a lot of people with bipolar who can function in society perfectly well. Others who can't. See a doctor find out how severe it is and try to live life.
What do you mean by legally?
Yes Bipolar Disorder is a legitimate disability and it is protected under the Americans with Disabilities Act.
yes
Unfortunately, it depends on Social Security Administration. My mother is bipolar, and they denied her SSI benefits, and after an appeal, we won. So, yes, in the eyes of God and everyone else it is, but it's in reality all up to SSA.
It depends on the severity of the illness in the individual--I have a friend who has been diagnosed as Bi-polar and Clinical depressed but the Social Security Administration does not deem him disabled ENOUGH to recieve monthly disability benefit checks...yet I know OTHER people who are bi-polar and they have been receiving checks for YEARS...
