My brother has been diagnosed with bipolar, how do I apply for SSI?

Question:
where do I begin, the first step ? thanks

Answers:
Go down to your local Social Security office and apply in person. No appointment is needed the first time you go in. Fill out the paperwork and have the date of disability onhand because this is the date they will pay from. Be prepared to provide medical records indicating the diagnosis and prognosis from the doctor. The prognosis will indicate what the doctor thinks about his future ability to be productive. You don't need medical records at first. You can sign a medical release of information form and they will contact the doctor. Good Luck!
Go to your local Department of Social Services.
Ahhhhhhh!
Don't count on it.
There are millions of functioning Bipolar cases.
Medication is available and effective.
