Best way to stop self-harming?

For me, smoking has stopped me hurting myself but are there any healthier alternatives?!

What I found that did help me was the need to be pysically and mentally healthier. Sometimes, there is no easy way to quit an addiction and an intervention is needed. For me, as I'm a cutter i always wear an elastic band around my wrist. When i feel like cutting, i give myself a good twang with the band. This not only helps me to stop cutting but brings me back to reality, with a short, sharp shock!

try putting ice on your wrists when you feel like cutting... it relieves stress and isnt as bad
My daughter is a cutter and exercising really seems to help her. Have you sought psychiatric help of any kind? My daughter suffers from BPD and is on meds that help also.
