How do you snap out of lethargy?

Question:
I know what lethargy is, and I'm very prone to it. Are there any suggestions or tips anyone might have to help me stimulate some neurons so that I don't fall behind on things? I'd like some input with a dietary perspective, mental perspective, and whatever kind of perspective anyone has. Thanks!

Answers:
Write down the time and place you feel lethargic. After a week or two of notes, you can narrow down the possible trigger.
Every morning, start with 15-30 minutes of exercise, be it a walk around the block or something more stimulating.

Eat your 5-7 veggies and fruits, choose whole grains over processed flour, avoid sugar, and minimize caffeine.

Take up yoga (hey, it's a twofer since it is exercise), meditation, or something like tai chi (another twofer).

Make reasonable lists, short lists, and do the things on it.

Give yourself some personal time each day. That's your official period to be a lethargic blob - and don't call it that because everyone needs some down time.
I think you should be screened for both Depression and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome by a competent doctor. There are some tests for CFS that involve antibodies and sedimentation rate, which has to do with inflammation. For Depression, there are no physical tests or blood tests -- yet -- but a mood and pain/fatigue inventory is very helpful.

If either diagnosis is accurate (and both are admittedly hard to pin down), you may have to use medication, at least temporarily.

You could also try seeing a nutritionist about vitamins and diet, and maybe see a holisitic doctor like a naturopath(www.naturopathic.or... for help. It's possible that something like accupuncture or yoga could make a difference -- can't hurt you, anyway, except maybe in the wallet.

I do know that some B vitamins, esp vitamin B12 are thought to help specifically with energy. And when I am fatigued the amino acid L-tyrosine helps me (can get this at a vitamin store or GNC).

Also, check for anemia!

Good luck!
omega 3 fish oils supposed to be good for helping you concentrate, my friend said they worked when she went to college to concentrate on one thing at a time rather than trying to think about several and getting nowhere. i find writing lists of things gets me going and im more likely to do stuff if ive written it down because most of the time i forget things i need to do!! hope this helps x
