I'm suprised he didn't recommend moving to another SSRI. Its common for people to get used to one and have to change to another periodically. Prozac has one of the worst side effect profiles of all of them anyway. Have you tried others? Maybe its cost related, do you pay out of pocket for your meds?
Well medicine is not an exact science that is for sure. I would ask your pharmacist. They know more than any of the doctors. Tell them exactly what they said and if that was true. They will know. My pharmasist is so good. Once a doctor prescribed me this iron and when I went in to have it filled he looked at me and said man why did he give this much to you. It is way too high of a dosage and showed me exactly what to take that would be better for my weight and problem.
It doesn't sound right to me but I'm not a Dr. Once you've taken something for a long period of time you body can adapt to it and it will no longer work as well as it did when you first started it. Ask your doc if he can switch you to a new anti-depressant like Zoloft or something for a while and see how that works.
Maybe you should juat switch to Cellxa.?
The advice your doctor is giving you should be followed. If you increase your dose too much then it may no longer be therapeutic; Furthermore it could exacerbate suicidal ideation which is obviously concerning as well as other side effects including anxiety disorders and panic attacks to name just a few. Many people feel that by increasing the dose the desired effect will be achieved. Unfortunately, things are not this simple. You should liaise with your doctor and if you are experiencing a change in mental health symptoms then you should consider an alternative treatment options. There are many alternatives to Prozac that work in different ways and treat complex depressive symptoms. The key to effective treatment is to ensure that you enter into a positive dialog with your clinician and that you follow their advice. Usually, depression can be treated effectively at a primary level. However, sometimes it requires specialist advice from a psychiatrist and it maybe also useful to run a few diagnostic tests on you to ensure that their are no physical problems occurring due to Prozac use age. Prozac is a very safe and recommended treatment. Hope this helps and remember to communicate with your doctor throughout and if necessary get independent advice from a mental health charity or advocate.
See depression treatments, at http://www.ezy-build.net.nz/~shaneris... on page 2. Dr.s are generalists, not experts in the area of psychopharmaceuticals, so either get a second opinion, or consult a psychiatrist, and try something else, if you are stuck on the idea that pills are the solution to your problems.
Ive only ever had meds increased or changed but maybe this doctor nows best...Id try it & if you feel you cant ask them questions (one Dr I once asked really seemed to resent me asking about a drug) maybe you need to look for another doctor which is what I did.
