Does zyprexa ruin your motor skills?
Question:
does zyprexa ruin your motor skills??
will she still be able to drive?
Answers:
I never noticed any impairment to fine motor skills when I was taking it; if I did it's because the drug caused me to have significant somnolence (sleepiness) and that may have contributed to it.
A lot of mood stabilizers, which are also anti-convulsants, can cause shakiness in the hands and such, but Zyprexa is atypical and different from those types of mood stabilizers, so this shouldn't be a problem. Dizziness an occur, but that's a possible side effect of just about any drug.
The most important thing to remember is that every person reacts to different drugs differently. For example, Zyprexa made me very sleepy, so much so I could sleep 14 hrs a day if I didn't have to work. But I have spoken with people that took more Zyprexa than I did and didn't have any sleepines whatsoever. I stopped taking it because of 1.) the weight gain (which was 50 lbs initially then I dieted and exercised it down) and 2.) the cognirtive effects of it. Zyprexa kind of took off my mental "edge"; I wasn't as quick with thinking or witty comebacks, and it was sometimes hard to concentrate; but again, there are other people that take it and don't have that problem.
I say give it a few weeks or 30 days and see, even if it's just on 2.5 mg/day; Zyprexa kicks in very fast and it's easy to stop using if you have to. If it's not her thing, just move on to something else...
Hope this helps.

Zyprexa may cause dizziness. Using Zyprexa alone, with other medicines, or with alcohol may lessen your ability to drive or to perform other potentially dangerous tasks.
