My friend takes lithium. It prevents her from having any feelings and it keeps her on a level. Sometimes she gets 'depressed' over the fact that she has no feelings but she couldn't 'live' without it. I have considered lithium, since i take a large dose of SSRIs everyday, but lithium is a lifetime drug, it's rare that people who are prescribed it will ever come off it! No major side effects tho after the first couplea weeks.
Lithium is udsed for bipolar. side efffects, nasuea, vomiting, lithium toxicity. how long have you been taking prozac? It can take 4-6wks to get a theraputic level with prozac, paxil, zoloft, etc. It does not work in one to two days. It takes time.
Side effects that might occur when starting Lithium include discomfort, frequent urination, hand tremor, mild thirst, and nausea. There are also additional side effects that you may experience.
I'm terrified of lithium. Just look it up on www.drugs.com for a list of side effects, not to mention regular blood test. Yuck!
Have you tried other antidepressants? Have you asked your doctor about other mood stabilizers?
Do your research and decide what you're willing to put up with. Often with mental illnesses it's a choice between the illness and the side effects. Many would rather have the illness.
