If science proves that marijuana really does do more good than harm would the government legalize it?
Question:
Answers:
Not unless they can control the supply and tax it. The reason tobacco is available and pot is not is bc of the $$$. Even if they legalized it it would most likely end up being regulated like amsterdam. No growing pot plants in your greenhouse. It would be expensive like oxycotin. Street dealers would have no chance of getting a license
No president is going to run on the platform of marijuana legalization. People dont vote on the legalization on any controlled substances. Besides its a global effort to decided what is illegal. Please see the Convention of Pyschotropics Drugs (that may not be the right phrase)
No, but they will allow everyone to damage their bodies by drinking alcohol.
A president cannot make law, that is up to congress. Some states have leglaized personal use of marijuana but federal law continues to trump the will of the people.
Marijuana hass been demonized as a gateway drug and for many other reasons it is stigmatized by conservative teetottlers who are afraid of anyone actually enjoying themselves in this country.
Write your congressman and senators about your concerns if you think it should be legal. I personally don't use it because I am drug tested for my career but I see no problem with someone using it for their own personal use as long as they are responsible about their actions such as operating vehicles or machinery while under the influence.
Alcohol, which I use, causes more harm than good, yet it is legal.
Legal and illegal are not synomynous with right and wrong. Some people may find things that are legal immoral and things that are illegal as moral.
In a constitutional united states drugs of any kind would not be illegal. But I digress into federalism.
If the government decided to legalize it it wouldn't put the drug dealers out of business. They would sell for cheaper. I can see it being sold like cigarettes. And anyone running for any office would not get a popular vote. OH, people don't vote for legalization because it's a drug and anybody who has kids knows they don't want drugs to become legal
Legalize pot? Not a chance. And the problem has nothing to do with whether it helps or harms. Plus, a politician who came out for legalization would be DOA. Here's one area where conservatives are totally irrational and not sane. (Facts just don't matter a bit.) Religion and sex are other areas, and all three are heavily intertwined.
As long as the right wing christians are running things, all our freedoms will be slowly taken away. Funny thing is, they are just a small group compared to the whole population, but they scream the loudest. I say-Up with the Weed, Down with the christians!
the gogt. will not legalize marijuana because there affraid to do anythng becauce they dont know what to do if they leglize it they could wipe out the natainal debt and that scares them so they are not even going to do anything about it
No, for several reasons.
The govt calls it a "stepping stone" drug that leads to more serious drugs.
Politicans can be "anti drug" and win, but not pro MJ. Too many soccer moms will not vote for them.
No money in it, to easy to grow and too hard to tax
Alcohol lobby and huge amounts of cash
Drug trade has even more cash for bribing politicians. Why would they want it legal? Price would go down and bribes would go away.
weed is not legal b/c government officials are pocketing direct profit---if it was legal they'd have to tax it and they'd lose money--they'd also lose control over the matter o_O
